Here are some great podcasts in the field of digital marketing and technology that I listen to on a regular basis. Great way to help keep current, exposed to new ideas and often a source of great book recommendations.
All are highly recommended and available on iTunes. I’ve included links to their websites so you can check them out in detail.
In no particular order of ranking, here they are:
Produced by American Public Media, MarketPlace Tech brings you a daily five to seven minute show featuring a technology topic du jour. Primarily about internet based technologies and their business impact, often a subject matter expert is interviewed. Easy to listen to, succinct and laden with facts. Usually leads me to do my own additional research on the topic.
Click, a weekly BBC produced podcast; actually the podcast version of the radio show with the added benefit of a “podcast intro” and “podcast outro” where additional time is spent covering user comments from prior shows or further conversation with the show’s guests. This is more of a technology show than a digital marketing show however it often covers emerging technologies and their applications, something all digital marketers should be aware of. If you are online community minded there is a very active group on Facebook that you can join. Often comments posted to the Facebook page are addressed on the show during the podcast intros and outtros.
Hosted by Daniel Rowles and Ciaran Rogers of Target Internet a UK based digital marketing consultancy, the Digital Marketing Podcast covers the latest tools and trends in digital marketing. Often offers interviews with thought leaders in the field. A great asset for keeping up on the latest in the field and my professional reading selections.
Produced by New York’s public radio station WNYC and hosted by Manoush Zomorodi, the New Tech City podcast version of the on-air segment covers how technology is changing our daily lives. As with some other podcasts mentioned here, a technology podcast covering what digital marketers need to be aware and knowledgeable of.
The UIE Brain Sparks SpoolCast
Created and produced by User Interface Engineering (UIE), a research, training, and consulting firm specializing in web site and product usability located in North Andover, MA. Jared Spool hosts the Spoolcast and typically features a subject matter expert in the field of usability on topics that almost always map to digital marketing and eCommerce. Often the subject matter experts are promoting a book and I’ve found this podcast a great resource in my professional reading selections. The podcast is also used to promote UIE conferences and shows by providing substantial portions of presentations from the prior year’s conference. Additionally following the UIE conference Jared and his team will use the podcast for additional Q&A time that could not be done; while even not attending the conference much can learned from these Q&A sessions
